The Noder Chand
In the middle of 1813, a young man named Chand lived on the banks of the Madhumati river in Boalmari. He came to Boalmari after learning Yantramantra from Kamrupkamakhya. He disguises himself as a crocodile to show his magic to the people of the area. Seeing this, his wife fainted. Before taking the form of a crocodile, he recited a jug of water to his wife and said that after becoming a crocodile, he would become human again by pouring that water on her. But as his wife was unconscious, no one was able to sprinkle water on the crocodile.
The people of the area brought sticks to kill the crocodile. When the crocodile moves due to that fear, the water of the pot falls on its tail and some parts of the tail take the shape of a human. Then the people of the area realize that it is not the crocodile but the Chand. Then the crocodile-face Chand goes to Madhumati river. Sometimes the crocodile could be seen. An Englishman shot and killed the crocodile. In that grief he drowned in the Madhumati river and committed suicide. There is a ferry ghat and a post office on the Madhumati river called Nader Chand to commemorate the events of the fairy tale and the mouza of the area is named Nader Chand.
